My Antonym Diamante Poem

                                                                        My Reflection
                                         I have been learning to write an antonym diamante poem.
                                                          An antonym means the opposite.
                                   My poem is about a Summer Christmas and a Winter Christmas.
    I found this really easy and fun because it was easy to think about the words to describe a summer and                                                                          winter Christmas.
     My next step is to not get muddled up in what order I need to put in the verbs, nouns and adjectives.

Proofreading Activity

                                       I have been learning to proofread my work.
  Proofreading is important because if you do mistakes while you're writing, the person that reads it won't                                                          understand the piece of writing.
  I found this easy and fun because it was easy to spot the mistake and it was really fun to find the mistake                            because it's like a treasure hunt but finding the words to are not right.
                         My next step is to make sure that all of my grammars are correct.

Maori Guardian Art

My Reflection

We read a myth about how Maori believe the world began. 

It was called In The Beginning.

We learnt about some of the guardians .

I chose to draw Tawhirimatea.

I wrote some adjectives to describe the amazing Tawhirirmatea!

My next step is to work harder to draw the guardians so it looks very real.

Telling The Time

            We are  learning to read and analogue clocks and write the time in numbers (digital) and words.
                    I found this easy because since I learned this, it'n now easy for me to do this activity.
                                                My next step is to not make any mistakes.

                    I have been learning to relate to the characters in the text to understand their purpose.
             In this activity I had to think about two characters point of view to help me understand the story                                                                                   more.
           I found this interesting because I learned of stuff about the two characters and learned more about                                                                             Stuart Little.
                             Something I found tricky was to find the answer to this piece of writing.
                     My next step is to know what is the answer faster so I can finish my work quickly.

                I have been learning to relate to the character in the text to understand their purpose.

            I found this activity a bit challenging because it was easy to know what Stuart did in the words but it was hard to know what I did in these words. 

My next step is to know connect what I read with my life.

I found this easy because I learned that the spelling patterns for the ´er´ sound is 3 spelling patterns.
My next step is to remember everything of by heart.

             I found this easy because since I learned the spelling patterns, I know how to do them easily now.

I think I did this well because I loved it when I did my conclusion and my speech topic was very appropriate and good for learning.
Next time I will improve some other facts that is really impressive and really effective so I can persuade lots of people.

Fractured Fairy Tale

                                   We were learning to write an interesting narrative story for an audience.
                                           We decided to to write a fractured fairy tale.
                                   First we learnt about the structure of a narrative, then we compared fairy tales. After                                      that we chose a fairy tale to change ad make or own version of Beauty And The                                            Beast.
                                   I think what I did well is how I described the forest and other stuff I described.
                                  One thing I need to work on is to make my writing more interesting like the real                                              authors of stories.
                                  My next step is to add more detail.

Ice Cream in a Bag Excperiment

                               We did an experiment to observe the change of two types of Matter.

Beauty, Beast and the Mighty Ninja

I am learning to write a fractured fairy tale. My usual story is Beauty and the Beast. I found this tricky because it was hard to think what is the mixed up part and what is the same. My next step is to put some onomatopoeia and hooks to make it more interesting.

Adding 2 Digit Numbers Using Place Value

I have been learning to add 2 digit numbers using place value. I found this easy because I knew how to work out place value since last year, and I've been working on this at home as well. My next step is to not take to long with my work  because I was doing this for ages.

We have been learning to fin the lines of symmetry in shapes.
 I found this easy because I looked at each one carefully and thought how many lines of symmetry I can make a shape, and then I got my answer!
My next step is to know them instantly.

My Silhouette Art

We have bee learning about mixing colors to make tints, tones and shades.

A tint is a color mixed with white.

A shade is a color mixed with black.

A tone is a color mixed with black and white.

I found this easy because it was easy to draw to silhouette and it was easy to do the back round.

My silhouette is an Olympic Athlete that is doing a split.

Describing 3D Shapes

I have been learning to recognise and describe 3D shapes. I found this easy because I was learning about this last year and knew some of them 2 years ago. My next step is to know the answer instantly with no counting the edges, faces and corners.

How well did I do? I did great but it was hard to find the answers in some of the question and I keep on forgetting some of the words meaning

What did I do well? I did well of doing the scavenger hunt and the one that I have to make up a  question that fit the question.

Which activity challenged me the most? What did I do about it? The activity that challenged me the most is the question the said What challenge might you face if you moved another country where they spoke a different language?

Which activity was the easiest for me? How can I extend myself next time? The easiest activity for me was the scavenger hunt because I love scavenger hunts and Iḿ really good at it.

We have been learning to find and summarize information in non - fiction texts by scimming and scanning. I researched facts about South Africa. I found the information on the internet. I found it easy to find information because every one I search up, it just pops up like when I was looking for the president. My next step is to check the contents page or index to see if it is relevant to me.

Today I have been working on changing singular nouns to plural nouns. I found this easy because it was really easy to figure out them all since Mrs Melville showed how to spell plurals. My next step is to know them of by heart.

A - Z Olympic Games

It was hard to think about sports that started with the beginning with X, Y, Z, W, and Q, but me and my buddy, Madison, finally found some sports. This was good learning for me because I learned ew sports from the Olympics. Me and Madison really enjoyed this A - Z!

Matariki Poems

My Reflection


We have been learning to write a haiku poem and acrostic poem. My favourite poem to write was the haiku poem because it was more fun then the acrostic poem. These poems are both very different because the acrostic poem, you need to write a word going down, and the haiku poem, the first line need to have five syllables and the second line need to have seven syllables, and the last line need to have five syllables.The hardest poem was to write was the acrostic poem because it was hard to think of a sentence in syllables. My next step is to think of some hooks so my writing can be interesting

Explanation Writing

My Reflection
I have been learning to write a simple explanation. This is my process I used to write my explanation with my buddy. First we did a brainstorm using Popplet to find information. Then we used a framework to help us draft our explanation. Lastly we published. I learnt more about stars like they stay in the right place where they normally stay. I found this peace of work tricky because it was hard to find the information and it took so long ot finish this but finally me and Husna finished this. My next is to have more interesting facts.

Matariki Presentation

My Reflection
I have been learning to find information by skimming and scanning. I used keywords to help me find information, then I summarized the information I found. The most interesting thing I learnt was when we celebrate Matariki this year. I found it challenging to quickly finish this work. I think I enjoyed most was everything.
My next step is to make my work have more describing words.

Dear Diary Post Term 2 Week 4

Dear Diary,

A few weeks ago, it was the first week of term 2, and it was a fantastic start!

All day we have been learning about matter for Inquiry. What I learned of matter is there are 5 things about matter They are solid, liquid, gas, plasma and B-E condensate.

When it was Thursday, there were fun activity's in every year 4 class, even the Auditorium.

We called it, Inquiry Launch Day. At room 15, they were doing Lava Lamps. The next nearest year 4 class is room 14. They were making gloop\ slime. Next is room 13. They were doing an egg experiment. Do you know what are they are doing with the egg? You got it right. They are trying to fit the egg on the jar. And the last room is my room, room 12. We are sorting out what kind of object goes on the Solid, Liquid and gas. When were're finish with that, we can go on a matter sort game for the restof the time when we need to swap over.

It all started when Miss Kulik was was sorting out the groups. There are 10 groups. If you were wondering what kind of group I am, I am in group 10! Ali, my friend, was in my group as always. She was in my group for bible and Terrific Tuesday!

I have been learning to use a glossary, index and table of contents.  In this book I used the contents help me find the tight pages.  My next step is to use the glossary to help me find words I don't know.

Diary Post Term 2 Week 4

Dear Diary,

Every afternoon, we have been learning about matter for Inquiry. What I learned about matter is there are 5 things of matter. They are liquid, solid, gas, plasma and BE condensake.

When it was Thursday, there were fun activitys in every year 4 class, even the auditorium.

This is my gold certificate. I had never had a gold certificate and I went crazy when I got it at home. This was a better year since I got a gold.

My Pepeha Art

WA.L what a Pepeha is and its purpose

In our Pepeha art we drew one big mountain and little mountains. We also drew a sun river and where we lived. We did this to show our life. If you want, you can draw clouds. Mrs Melville said that your not aloud anything white but the things that need to be white like clouds and the snow. You can  put the little mountains in the back or front if you like, its your choice. This is how my Pepeha looks like when it is done. I started colouring in at the top and working my way to the bottom. I made my sun in warm colours. They are red,yellow and orange. I did it in dark to light. Next I did the sky. I also used the warm colours to make a sunset colour. After that I put 5 clouds, but I made them like swirls. The next thing I did is the big mountain. I decorated it with stripes. 3 green stripes and 2 blue stripes with dark blue waves. Now I did the river. I put 3 fishes that are cool fishes. The cool colours are purple, green and blue. And the lucky last is the lawn and the house. In the house I also done waves at the top and bottom. In the rest of it I did warm colors but I did not do the windows. So that is how I did my Pepeha art.

Our Trip to Te Tuhi

A few days ago me and room 12 went to Te Tuhi. We did the wish you were here workshop. This is my picture. I enjoyed it because I love art so much and there was really cool stuff there.

Identifying and Classifying Numbers

My Reflection
We have been learning to identify odd and even numbers less then 20. We did on Nrich  using a venn diagram. I found this tricky because I didn´t now what one of the numbers go to. My next step is to try this with different types of numbers.

Robinson Crusoe - Chapter 1

I have been learning to read independently for sustained periods of time. We are reading Robin Crusoe which is a novel.I found  this work easy because you just put the list of things you need if you'r in an island.  My next step is to read the next chapter and answer some questions.

My Welcome Post 2016

Welcome to my Year 4 learning blog.  This year I am in Room 12 and my teacher is Mrs Melville. I enjoy swimming, brain break, singing, and lots of fun things. This year I am looking forward to having a nice teacher, having lots of trips to different kind of places I haven´t been to. I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
